Sassanid foot Archers

We have finished the first of the Sassanid infantry packs, they are archers, 2 packs with 3 different sets of heads. Given the fairly generic equipment etc. they will find use in a load of armies. We will add more heads in due course as we add the rest of the infantry packs. I am going to paint some for my Byzantine army which will come along in due course.

Re-sized transfers for phalanx

Phil has been busy painting his phalanx and wanted to use the flatter non rimmed pelts AVS14, these are 13mm(12.9mm) across the surface and the transfers in the store were designed for the rimmed pelt’s inner surface so were too small. Steve at LBMS enlarged the PYR(AV)1-4 sets so that they fit from edge to edge on the AVS14 shields, they are now available in our store.

As an extra bonus the hoplon is also 13mm across the inner surface so they will also fit that shield and the SUC(GB)2-7 sets are also the same size and therefore can also be used.

Phil’s Pyrrhic Project

Dr. Phil Hendry, yes the magic dipper has started a Pyrrhic Project. We have added a page to the features photos tab onto which we will post the photos of the units he has fnished. I have now gathered up all the photos of this project and they are now all in the one place.

Baggage for the Huns, Avars and other Steppe cavalry

We have just added a set of 3 horses carrying various baggage items. The lead horse is ridden by an unarmoured rider who comes with a choice of 4 steppe cavalry heads( we will supply any head in the range if asked). The horses have a rope which can be used to join the 3 together as shown in the photos. This completes the range for now and it is onwards with the infantry for the Sassanids.

Steppe cavalry now complete

The Steppe Nomads are now finished. They can be used in conjunction with our Sassanian Persians as either allies or enemies. The range covers the period between Rome’s first encounter with the Huns in the west until after the end of the Sassanian Persian Empire. Think Huns, Turks, Avars, Alans etc, etc.

Although, as has been pointed out by several people on various blogs, the range could extend to at least the 9th Century Ad. We feel that after this the figures could still be used either mixed with later types or used as allies down to the Mongol Period. They would also be useful in a Byzantine army down to the 13th Century.

Most are 2 piece bodies with separate heads, as in most of our sets we will try to give you the heads that you want with the figures, just add a note in the ordering process or an email and we will do our best to match them up for you. There are just too many different possibilities with this lot to list every combination(I tried with ST07 but even then fell short by about 3 sets). Most come with horse baggage items and extra archery equipment to allow the figures to have an individual appearance.

Short holiday

I am gong away for a few days R&R and will be back on Wednesday afternoon/early evening 19th August. All emails etc. will be dealt with upon my return along with orders being processed at present. So in real terms the orders placed since Friday lunchtime will be posted on Thursday as opposed to the usual one day turn around.

Cheers
