After seeing these beautiful miniatures on the web site, I sent an email to Keith at Aventine asking for a sample to check the scale vs. other figures before diving in. The scale is a bit bigger than my other figures (Crusader and Old Glory), but a good fit with Renegade and apparently Relic. Having seen them in person, I was blown away. I immediately placed a very large order for an entire army of Romans, Allies, Hill Tribes, and Elephants to use in my next project (The Punic War played out using Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage boardgame for the strategic element, with battles fought out using Commands & Colors: Ancients on a table top). Keith gave me a great volume rebate and had the order packed and delivered in a week (from the UK to Chicago)! What great service. The figures are simply the most accurate, most beautiful ancient figures that I have ever seen. And the variety of poses and command figures makes every stand unique and fun to look at. The only disappointment I have is that I have to buy the Carthaginian figures from other companies...and then replace them when Aventine blows them out of the water.
Very angry-looking elephant comes in two halves with separate head, tail and tusks all moulded in metal. Fits together well and requires minimal filing and in-filling. The (hide-covered) tower and mahout will hide most seams anyway. Tower assembles easily and is a perfect fit, aligning with the chains around his body. You can practically hear him trumpeting - no late Hellenistic army is complete without this beast.
